Do what you like, or Like what you do

you-will-enjoy-true

My hat is off to the person at the great and wise
Fortune Cookie Factory who wrote this:

” You will enjoy true in whatever you do. “

Now, I’m not 100% sure what they intended,
so I’m going to go with the first thought I had:

The secret to success lies not
in doing what one likes,
but in liking what one does.

I heard a self made millionaire in his early 20′s
say that when I was in my early 20′s.

Now, if you can hold this to be true – and practice it,
then wouldn’t it make sense to pick an occupation that
would better prepare you to achieve goals and dreams you have
as opposed to merely settling for an occupation that you “liked” ?

I say this because of the countless people I have known and meet
who, instead of learning to enjoy a field of endeavor that can
bring them the wants and dreams they have in their Life,
they settle for receiving the bits & pieces of it based on some
career, job, occupation they have chosen because they “like it”.

The vision I’ve always had is trying to explain to my child
who wanted desperately to have that new bicycle
that he couldn’t have it because “Daddy likes his job”.
And how my son could have gone to college if only
his Dad had only picked an occupation that
made sense instead of because he “liked it”.

Remember that old song from the 70′s that went:

” And if you can’t be with the one you love -
Love the one you’re with
Love the one you’re with ”
(thank you Stephen Stills)

Yeah, it’s like that…

So I would invite those of you who still believe
that it’s never too late to change, to do just that.

Embrace something new, something different;
and learn what you can appreciate and enjoy about it.
(This could be said of people, too – FYI)

You will be met with an uncommon success
by doing the uncommon…
