Christmas… shoes and Spirit

Whenever I used to call
someone on the phone
I would ask them;
“Is this a good
time to call ?”
or “Did I catch you
at a good time ?”

Now – I’m not exactly on the phone with you, but still…
Did I catch you at a good time ?

I ask because I know it’s easy to just sort of skim over things
in a hurry especially now that it’s Christmas Season,
and time is all the more scarce.
So, if it’s not a good time
to really read & digest the words
- just come back, OK ? :)
But please… come back…

OK. It’s that time of year again where they play all those songs
that are supposed to put us in the Christmas Spirit.
Among these songs is a more recent one called
“The Christmas Shoes”.
I get a lump in my throat when I hear this song
- even more when I’m driving at night alone.
Now if you don’t know the song – here are the words:

—- The Christmas Shoes —-
(by NewSong)

It was almost Christmas time,
there I stood in another line
Tryin’ to buy that last gift or two,
not really in the Christmas mood
Standing right in front of me
was a little boy waiting anxiously
Pacing ’round like little boys do
And in his hands he held a pair of shoes
His clothes were worn and old,
he was dirty from head to toe
And when it came his time to pay
I couldn’t believe what I heard him say

Chorus:
Sir, I want to buy these shoes
for my Mama, please
It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there’s not much time
You see she’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful
if Mama meets Jesus tonight

He counted pennies for what seemed like years
Then the cashier said, “Son, there’s not enough here”
He searched his pockets frantically
Then he turned and he looked at me
He said Mama made Christmas good at our house
Though most years she just did without
Tell me Sir, what am I going to do,
Somehow I’ve got to buy her these Christmas shoes

So I laid the money down, I just had to help him out
I’ll never forget the look on his face
when he said Mama’s gonna look so great

Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please
It’s Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size
Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there’s not much time
You see she’s been sick for quite a while
And I know these shoes would make her smile
And I want her to look beautiful
if Mama meets Jesus tonight

Bridge:
I knew I’d caught a glimpse of heaven’s love
As he thanked me and ran out
I knew that God had sent that little boy
To remind me just what Christmas is all about

Repeat Chorus (sung by children)

OK, are ya back ?
Good.
So, I’ve spent the last few minutes searching
for the song to add here for you to hear.

(HERE IT IS – CLICK AWAY !)

And… what I’m left with is that
I don’t need to say anything else.
This song moves me; it touches me.
What you get out of it is for YOU to experience.
And I know no matter who you are,
if you’ve read this and heard the song
- you got something.

Savor it, and pass it on.

Not just because it’s “that time of year”;
but because life around you will be just that much better
because you did; and in return – your Life will be as well.

Merry Christmas, my Friend…

~Rob
